DECKING AND RAILING QUESTIONS

Where can I find more information on your products?

If you cannot find the information you need on our website, please visit one of the manufacture links and explore their website. If you still cannot locate the information you need please feel free to contact us by email or phone.

Does Outdoor Additions mail out product catalogs?
No, we do not mail out a catalog. In order to keep costs down, this website is our catalog. Printing hard copies of our products would be expensive and time consuming, which are costs we would have to pass on to you, the consumer. Prices for all of our in stock products are on this website, as well as brochures which you can download.

 What is Dream© Deck?
Dream© Decking is made of 100% PVC vinyl compound. Manufactured using state-of-the-art triple extrusion process. The surface is a weatherable, colorfast, cool, nonslip surface. The second layer is recycled vinyl for strength and environmental responsiveness. The third is a flexible "dual durometer" composite added to the feet of the material to prevent the squeaking sound associated with other vinyl decks.

 Is the handrail also vinyl?
Yes, in fact, all exposed handrail, posts, post caps, and pickets are 100% vinyl. The top and bottom rails also have an inner, hidden, extruded aluminum H-beam that spans between posts to prevent sagging and add strength and stability.

Does Dream© Deck come in colors?
Yes, White, Earthtone (Beige), and Gray.

Does Dream© Deck come with a warranty?
Yes, Thermal Industries, Inc. has been in business since 1961 and they offer a "lifetime" warranty on all Dream© Decking products.

 Is it slippery?
No, actually the embossed slip-resistant surface provides a safer walking surface than wood. Also there are no unsightly nails or screws exposed to the surface, which means no splinters to the hands or feet.

 Does it get hot?
No, the UV resistant surface actually reflects the sun's rays leaving the Dream© Decking surface cool to the touch, thus, making it an ideal surface for pool decks.

Can I replace my old worn out wooden deck surface with Dream© Decking?
Providing that that your existing framework on your deck was properly constructed and remains in good condition, we can remove your existing deck boards and railing and replace with Dream© Deck and Rail.

Will my entire deck be vinyl?
As a support structure wood is still a viable material. We use the best lumber and craftsmanship available to provide you with a strong foundation to support your Dream© Deck. All exposed decking and rail surfaces will be vinyl.

 Is it 100% maintenance free?
Dream© Decking never needs staining, sealing, painting or sanding. Occasionally, a simple cleaning can be achieved by spraying with a garden hose. If spills occur and are left unattended, simple cleaning solutions will remove them. We can provide you with a suggested list of cleaning removers if the need should ever arise.

Will it crack in cold weather?
No, under normal circumstances Dream© Deck will not break or crack due to extreme temperatures. We have installed the product in freezing temperatures with no problems.

Is it more expensive than wood?
Initially, Dream© Deck is slightly more expensive, as a lifetime investment it will never need annual maintenance or costly treatments, saving money immediately.

Can the railing be installed on a concrete porch?
Yes, using optional concrete mounting kits, we can accentuate your existing plain porch, or replace an existing rail.

DECKLIGHT FAQ's

How do I place a decklight order?

In order to give you the lowest possible pricing for decklights, we DO NOT accept any forms of charge payments. We wholesale directly to contractors. However, we do sell to individuals that make payment in the form of Check or Money Orders made Payable to:   Outdoor Additions

Why don't you take charge card orders?

If we accepted charge payments, your end cost would be inflated by bank fees, transaction percentage fees, monthly fees, etc. and we would not be able to sell our lights at the price we do. We have been accepting personal and business checks as long as we have been selling lights and have never had a complaint.

What is the run time on the solar light?
The run time will vary based on the season. During the summer months, the solar light will run for up to 14 hours. During the winter months, the shorter daylight hours, as well as cloudy days, will reduce the run time to approximately 3-6 hours.

How long will the Solar lights last?
The LED bulbs are designed to last a lifetime, as is the solar collector. These are of the highest quality and latest technology available today. The batteries are 1.5V NiCad batteries. These will last approximately 1000 cycles, or roughly three years. Batteries are warranted for one year. Replacements can be purchased locally.

My solar light will not light up?
The most common issue is the battery. It takes up to three weeks for a new solar unit to cycle to full capacity. Winter months will effect this cycle time as well, if installed in the middle of winter. To test a solar unit, remove the NiCad batteries, and install AA alkaline batteries. Cover the entire solar collector to test the unit. If the unit lights up, replace the NiCad batteries.

How many lights can I install on a transformer?
Up to 50 lights. See transformer section. For further detail, read the transformer instruction sheet included with the transformer.

What type of bulb is used, and where do I get replacements?
The bulb is a standard automotive brake light bulb, and can be purchased at any auto parts store.

Can a dimmer switch be used?
Dimmer switches are not effective on low voltage lighting.

Can the light output be reduced on the low voltage light?
A 7.5 watt bulb is available to reduce the light output if desired.

Some lights appear dimmer than others, what do I do?
This is a result of wiring issues. Primary due to longer distances from the transformer (200 or more feet). There are several different wiring schemes to address and/or correct this. Please refer to the transformer instruction manual to correct.

I have low voltage landscape lighting; can I add Decklights to this?
Generally, the answer is no. It is best to start from scratch, for two reasons: First, the transformer likely has less wattage output than is necessary for the Aurora Deck lights. In addition, landscape lighting usually uses 18-gauge wire, which is too light for the Aurora Deck Light product. Using this will cause a drop in wattage, making the lights appear dimmer.

Can I change the glass style in the light?
Yes, glass can be purchased separately to change between the styles. This includes new Tiffany Opalescent Glass in red, white, blue, and green

Can I put the lights on an inside switch?
Yes. To do so, the outlet that the transformer plugs into must be wired to the desired switch. The transformer is then placed in "manual mode", operated by the light switch.

What is the product warranty?
The Aurora Deck Light product is warranted against manufacturer defect for a period of one year. Product replacement is provided at no charge during this warranty period. Product must be returned to Decklights for inspection at customer expense. Aurora Deck Lights does not provide for any labor costs related to product warranty.

What if my product is out of warranty?
Aurora Deck Lights would like to insure long-term customer satisfaction. In the event that there are product related issues after the first year, Aurora Deck Lights will address these on a case-by-case basis.
